Lacedaemoniorum Rex, ex Proclidis, IX. successit patri Nicandro, regnante, ex agidis, Alcamene, sub quibus ob leviculam causam Messenii bellô petiti sunt. Post eum fuit collega Polydori, quorum simulatâ discordiâ Messenii post 20. ann. certamina debellati sunt. Annô enim 3. Olymp. 10. uterque Rex, Messenios iterum invadunt: pugnatum est aequô Marte, sed Messenii, calamitatibus oppressi Ithonem muniunt in eamque se recipiunt. Hinc Ithone petita, iterumque pugnatum, sed ab Aristodemo Euphais Messenii successore victi Lacedaemonii: qui proin ad astum se convertunt, suadente Pythiâ (oracula recitat Pausanias) ac Ithonem expugnant annô 1. Olymp. 14. soloque aequant. Sub eodem Ephori Lacedaemone inducti sunt, qui exprobranti sibi uxori, quod regiam potestatem minorem, quam acceperat, filiis suis traditurus erat, respondit, Imo maiorem, utpote durabiliorem. Plut.
